Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a unique and practical approach that goes beyond typical talk therapy. It helps you understand and heal the different parts of yourself, fostering inner harmony and self-leadership.
WHAT IS INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is an evidence-based, non-pathologizing model best known through experience. This is because IFS is not a traditional therapy. It is an experiential model that does depth work. It utilizes a combination of body experience (somatic), mind, and spirit (a deeper connection to one’s internal guide) to explore how one navigates the world.
Have you ever heard yourself say something like, “Part of me is nervous, and a part of me is excited" or “Part of me wants to say yes, and another is scared to say no”?
Internal Family Systems helps you identify, understand, and harmonize these parts to achieve a balanced and peaceful internal system.
Key Concepts of IFS:
-
Parts: Everyone has multiple parts, or sub-personalities, manifesting through thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and physical sensations. Some parts may be stuck in extreme roles, acting in damaging or overwhelming ways.
-
Self: Beyond these parts, each person has an innate healing capacity called the Self. When in Self, you are open, compassionate, and capable of healing the parts that have been hurt.
WAYS IFS CAN HELP YOU
Healing Emotional Wounds
IFS allows you to address past traumas and unresolved issues that may be impacting your present life. By understanding and healing these parts, you can release old burdens and move forward with a sense of freedom and peace.
Enhancing Self-Compassion
As you connect with your parts from a place of Self, you cultivate a deep sense of compassion for all aspects of yourself. This compassionate presence is key to healing and integration.
Reducing Internal Conflict
IFS helps you untangle the often polarized parts of yourself, allowing them to work together harmoniously. This reduces internal conflict and promotes a sense of inner balance.
Promoting Self-Leadership
Through IFS, you learn to lead your life from a place of Self, rather than being driven by reactive parts. This Self-leadership enables you to live more deliberately, aligned with your true values and aspirations.
BENEFITS OF IFS
Clients who engage in IFS often experience profound and lasting benefits, including:
